What is the Sweezey Lake Association?

For those of us who are lucky enough to spend summer weekends, or more, on Sweezey Lake, we know that the Sweezey Lake Association is responsible for many of our best summer memories. Annual trophies for the largest fish caught by a child, the Fourth of July pontoon parades and ice-cream socials, as well as "Hobo Dinners" complete with fresh-picked corn and boiled potatoes are just a few of the reasons we have so much fun on Sweezey Lake.

Did you also know that the Association…
tests our water quality,
is responsible for the building of the dam that ensures a water level that’s ‘just right’…not too high or too low,
routinely stocks the lake with fish,
provides easy lake access for members to launch their boats, and
promotes the state’s rules and regulations for boating and water safety.

First formed in the early 1940’s, the Association’s purpose "...is the organization on a non-profit basis of the property owners that have deeded property on Sweezey Lake in order to establish as a group, adequate protection of the property, improvement of conditions in the lake, better road maintenance and such benefits conducive to the general welfare of the property owners concerned."

The Association’s board consists of eleven members who are elected at an annual meeting for two-year terms. Our current chair is Laurie Obee, whose family now has four generations summering on Sweezey. Laurie and the board are always eager for new members who want to become active in the care, preservation and enhancement of our lake.
